These days there are so many options and workout shorts are up there with loads of variations to confuse us even more – different lengths, inner lining, no inner lining, splits down the side , different materials – picking the right one can make your workout a lot more comfortable allowing you to focus on the job at hand.

Really tall or trying to channel your inner basketballer? The 10” workout short is the longest short you would want to wear when doing any type of workout. With full coverage of the thigh to just over the knee, the 10” short is a looser fit for loads of mobility – some guys love this length for CrossFit and big gym sessions.

The 9” workout short is the ideal length for all round activity. Sitting just above the knee, so not showing off too much upper thigh, a good 9” workout short has a generous fit so great for those deep squats, box jumps or generally just athletic wear. Our top pics are –

Good for – Short runs
The 8” workout shorts is a great athletic fit for a whole range of workouts. Showing off a little more of the lower quad, but with a slightly looser fit than a 7” short, the length is a great length for high intense exercise. It is also home to one of our favourite workout shorts – the Under Amrour Vortex short. With a super stretchy material and sublime fit, you will be wanting to where these all day everday.

Good for – short runs
The 7” short is built for speed. If you have solid pins, then these show off the ‘teardrop’ of the quad just enough to let people know who is kings of leg day. Showing a little more inner thigh tan, this length of short is streamlined with less bulk. A 7” is great for running, but still long enough to not offend anybody in the gym. These workout shorts are also great for wearing over leggings as they are a little more fitted so don’t make the leg look ‘too skinny’.

Shorts with liners – 2 in 1
Want to make sure everything stays in place and give you the athletic edge? Shorts with inner liners can provide that little bit of extra stability and ‘hold’ when working out. Workout shorts with liners generally have flattened seams that lay soft against the skin to prevent irritation. Any moisture that hits the surface will immediately wick right off.
Ideal for – any type of workout, as long as you feel comfortable with the liner.
The Athletic Life look short
You don’t have to be sweating or going to a workout to channel your inner athlete. There are some great shorts on the market that have that athletic look and feel, but are ultimately some of the comfiest shorts you will ever wear. These are perfect for lounging around, cruising the streets, post workout or a light session, or our favourite – is travelling on a plane. With a super soft material and looser cut, you will be thanking us next time you get onboard the jet.
